According to President Biden, AI could offer great advantages in addressing complex issues like various diseases and climate change. However, Biden also stressed the importance of considering the potential risks that AI may pose to society, national security, and the economy.
Therefore, Biden suggested that tech companies must explore the security of their AI products before introducing them to the public. When asked about the potential risks associated with AI, US President stated that the level of danger "is yet to be determined."
In his speech, President Biden highlighted the negative consequences that can result from powerful technologies, particularly when proper safeguards are lacking, by pointing to the impact of social media.
Absent safeguards, we see the impact on the mental health and self-images and feelings and hopelessness, especially among young people.
On top of that, during the meeting, Biden urged US Congress to pass bipartisan privacy legislation that limits the amount of personal data collected by tech firms, prohibits advertising aimed at children, and prioritizes health and safety during product development.
The comments from United States President Joe Bide came shortly after tech executives and developers urged authorities to apply a 6-month halt on the development of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) systems.
The new developments of artificial intelligence have also attracted the attention of prominent crypto industry players, which claimed that authorities should work on regulating AI rather than crypto.
