It’s no wonder that Southeast Asia is one of the most popular destinations for numerous Web3-driven projects from all around the world. The region, always at the forefront of financial technology and gaming, has the largest number of online users, estimated at roughly 2.8 billion.
In fact, Southeast Asia, with nearly 700 million residents, hosts over 600 blockchain or crypto-oriented organizations, drawing almost $1B in funding from numerous Web3 startups in 2022. Amy Zhao, the lead at Ocular Fund at Openspace Venture, has recently spoken on the importance of Web3 technology in Southeast Asia:
“It has young populations who inherently understand the technology and are more willing to try new things. It’s mostly developing economies, so the financial aspect of crypto provides a lot of incentives for people to participate.”
Earlier in March, the Chromium-based Opera Crypto Browser, offering a free VPN and a non-custodial crypto wallet, added support for a number of blockchain networks, including Bitcoin, Solana, StarkEx, Ronin, Celo, Polygon, Nervos, and BNB chain.
