Opera Announces Crypto Browser Upgrade, Includes Polygon and Solana Support

The Chromium-based web browser has implemented eight blockchain networks to give its users "seamless access to blockchains and decentralized apps."

Back in 2018, Opera introduced its Crypto Wallet which was built into the browser, becoming the first major web browser to have integrated a digital asset storage. Later in January of 2022, Opera rolled out a separate initiative and launched the beta version of the Crypto Browser Project.

Meanwhile, the Norway-based browser has upgraded its Crypto Browser by adding support for several major blockchains including Solana, Polygon, Bitcoin, StarkEx, Nervos, Ronin, Celo, and IXO.

With the integration, Opera users will get access to dApps and DeFi services, built on previously mentioned networks, and even manage their Axie Infinity NFTs through the Ronin Network.

Likewise, the addition of the Polygon and StarkEx blockchains will enable users to make faster transactions with lesser gas fees, and the transfers will be protected by Ethereum’s security protocols.

Opera Mobile EVP Jorgen Arnesen spoke on the recent initiative and the adoption of Web3 technologies, stating:

"…Web3 is on its way to becoming a mainstream web technology and users won’t need to know they’re interacting with it. They need to get a superior user experience and a true benefit."

Even though tech platforms are increasingly implementing blockchain support, some members of the community are still quite reluctant to the adoption of Web3.

Back in January, third-party web browser Mozilla Firefox announced that it will be adding an option to support the project via crypto. However, the decision angered the community and even the co-founder of Mozilla Jamie Zawinski.
