Yesterday, the company noted via their website (despite the fact that the plan was to bring the Worms series to the blockchain via NFT integrations):
We have listened to our Teamsters, development partners, and our games’ communities, and the concerns they’ve expressed, and have therefore taken the decision to step back from the NFT space.
The announcement has received a response from user “Mechmouse” immediately, saying:
Thank you However Every, and I mean EVERY, beloved franchise or well standing company that has done this before has been met with the exact same level of upset and indignation. What on earth convinced you to go down this route in the first place?
“Worms” have been here for a few decades now, received a lot of support from gamers, and sold more than 75 million copies. However, the MetaWorms NFT project has been canceled, as the February 1st announcement indicates.
In regards to the potential scams related to the industry and the energy-intensive nature of cryptocurrencies, NFTs have a poor reputation in the gaming world, especially among passionate gamers.
The Balmain and Barbie Collection
Balmain (a French luxury fashion house) and Barbie announced their collaboration of creating a series of exclusive NFTs. The pairing has the potential to start a new chapter for the fashion and toy industries alltogether.
The NFTs will feature three one-of-a-kind pieces of Barbie and Ken styled in Balmain. The non-fungible-tokens will be available via Mattel Creations in a mintNFT auction. Moreover, each NFT will include a set of Barbie-sized Balmain items.
On Thursday, the CEO and president of Mattel, Richard Dickson said:
As a fashion house committed to innovation in unexpected and joyous ways, Balmain, under Olivier Rousteing’s creative direction, is the perfect partner to translate the iconography that is unique to Barbie into a modern iteration of digital art and physical fashion.
Furthermore, as the Balmain x Barbie auction approaches, bids already hover around $2,000.
The Coachella Lifetime Pass
Coachella has been organizing three-day weekend festivals every April. In 2022, the festival will even feature popular performers such as Billy Eilish, Harry Styles, and Kanye West.
From now on, fans of The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival can get a tokenized lifetime access to the events by purchasing an NFT collectible. To be exact, Coachella partnered with FTX US to launch a new series of NFTs.
February 1st was the day the collaboration was revealed, and the details explained that the NFTs will include real-world and virtual benefits. Coachella has also hinted that the collaboration with FTX would result in the development of virtual events in the Metaverse.
The auction of the first Coachella’s NFTs will take place on February 4th. The drop will include 10 different lifetime passes for both virtual and live events. Not to forget to mention the 1,000 digital posters that can be made into a physical copy and 10,000 tokenized photos.
The passes will all contain different VIP benefits - backstage access, secret parties, fine dining, and accommodation. Furthermore, they will go for auction without a starting price.
