World Economic Forum Shares a Toolkit for Decentralized Autonomous Organizations

The 37-page toolkit was reportedly created by more than 100 experts.

The World Economic Forum (WEF), a Cologny-based international non-governmental and lobbying organization, has published a toolkit for decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs).

According to the document’s description shared on January 17th, the DAO Toolkit is set to provide resources to “developers, policy-makers, and other stakeholders seeking to engage with the DAO ecosystem.”

The World Economic Forum claims that the toolkit was formed by more than 100 experts and provides “a starting point for DAOs to develop effective operational, governance, and legal strategies.”

In the 37-page document, WEF describes the toolkit as a “set of adaptable resources for key stakeholders to help realize the full potential of this emerging form.” Based on the document, DAOs hold “the potential to address many of the shortcomings of the traditional firm while also realizing more equitable governance and operations.”

The toolkit contains five chapters: what are DAOs, DAO operations, DAO governance, legal structures, and recommendations. In a nutshell, the toolkit is created to provide a clear view of DAOs and their benefits.

In the toolkit, WEF highlighted that it is crucial to create “policy and legal frameworks” for DAOs.

Creating adequate policy and legal frameworks for DAOs is crucial to realizing the benefits and mitigating the risks of this novel organizational form.

However, WEF noted that the creation of these frameworks can become a complicated task due to “several proposals,” including the Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework and the US Infrastructure Bill.

It is worth noting that it is not the first report the World Economic Forum has shared about decentralized autonomous organizations. In June 2021, the WEF shared a document called “Decentralized Finance: (DeFi) Policy-Maker Toolkit.” After a year, in June 2022, it issued a follow-up report called “Decentralized Autonomous Organizations: Beyond the Hype.”
