In the very first days of the year, the concept of metaverse managed to storm the tech industry right off the bat.
According to Kinsey Fabrizio, vice president at Consumer Technology Association, metaverse was the “key theme” of the tech industry showcase event, CES 2023. The event was held from Jan 5 to Jan 8 in Las Vegas. Multiple sources noted that the 4-day showcase wielded clout as countless industry giants were there to display their technological prowess.
At the event, one of the leading tech companies, HTC, introduced a high-end virtual reality that combines Mixed Reality (MR) and Virtual Reality (VR) capabilities into one device.

Many other companies and startups were also keen on presenting their augmented / mixed reality glasses and technologies that allow users to experience virtual reality fullest.
Namely, Vermont-based OVR Technology showcased a headset containing a cartridge with eight primary aromas that can be combined to create different scents. It's scheduled to be released later this year.
CES 2023 demonstrated that numerous companies are competing for market share in supporting technologies, including sense-replicating wearables.
However, experts note that the development of more robust and immersive uses of scent, touch and taste is still far off on the innovation spectrum, and current VR technologies are still in the early stages of development and are expensive for many consumers.
Despite the decline in Extended Reality (ER) accessories in the past year, CES 2023 showed that industry leaders are not giving up on the concept of the metaverse. Furthermore, the consulting firm McKinsey says the metaverse could generate up to $5 trillion by 2030.
