Polygon Partners up With Tech Startup Nothing to Bring Web3 to Smartphones

Yet another initiative to bring Web3 to an enormous mobile audience will see the light of day.

Polygon, an Ethereum scaling solution, has recently reported that it would be joining forces with London-based tech startup Nothing in order to bring Web3 to smartphones.

The news arrives a few weeks after the second-biggest blockchain project Solana announced its new Web3-powered smartphone dubbed Solana Saga and Solana Mobile Stack (SMS) software platform, a development kit for Android wallpapers and games.

According to the official report issued on July 5th, Nothing will leverage the Polygon Network to airdrop non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on its first smartphone called the Nothing Phone (1).

The NFT membership program, known as “Nothing Community Dots,” will allow its members to get discounts on various goods and services, as well as early access to newly released products and upcoming events.

In fact, Nothing will take advantage of the partnership by distributing the first reward in the shape of invites to its new Android-based phone launch in London on July 12. As stated in the announcement, the first Nothing’s Dot NFTs will be ready for grab right after users connect their wallets to the platform.

On top of that, Arjun Kalsy, Polygon’s Vice President of Growth, noted that Polygon and Nothing have worked very hard to come up with various ideas on how users could leverage Polygon games and decentralized apps (dApps) on Android and Apple smartphones.

Nonetheless, he also mentioned that there is so much more to come, as the collaboration will see the two parties integrating the phone with various easy-to-use applications.

Likewise, the users of Nothing Phone (1) will have the ability to access payments and future features, including a proof-based identification solution called Polygon ID. Kalsy added:

“How do we get even closer to the user? The largest distribution platform in the world is the mobile phone. Basically, the timing was right that now we can take this technology to the masses.”

Even though Polygon’s VP didn’t disclose how the Web3 integration would essentially work, he still mentioned that the initiative's end goal is similar to Solana’s SMS one - to expand the adoption of crypto and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) by bringing Web3 to smartphones.

More information is expected to arrive at the upcoming Nothing event on Tuesday.
