Nike’s RTFKT COO Loses Almost All of His NFTs During a Massive Hack

It is estimated that Nikhil Gopalani lost NFTs worth over $173,000.

Nikhil Gopalani, the chief operating officer (COO) of Nike-owned NFT project RTFKT, has lost almost all of his NFTs during a recent hack.

According to the tweet shared on January 3rd, during a phishing attack, a malicious actor stole and sold all of Gopalani’s Clone X and other NFTs.

The wallet linked to Gopalani was left practically empty. The hacker left only one NFT from a Death Row Records NFT collection called “Clone X Theme Song," worth approximately $60.

Nevertheless, the data on Ethereum shows that Gopalani’s wallet contains only $0.11 worth of Ethereum (ETH).

The OpenSea data reveals that the malicious actor used two wallets to drain Gapalani’s NFT collection. It appears that the RTFKT COO’s NFTs were worth over $173,000. In total, the hacker managed to steal 19 CloneX NFTs (worth around $138,000), 19 RTFKT Animus Eggs (around $20,200), 18 RTKFT Space Pods (over $6,300), 17 Loot Pods ($6,200), 11 CryptoKicks ($3,000) and a few others.

It is worth noting that Nikhil Gopalani could have lost even more money in the hack, as the possible price of stolen NFTs is calculated by looking into the floor price of each collection.

One of the wallets used for the attack is currently empty, while the other contains 46 NFTs.

It is unclear how the hack happened and how the malicious actor gained access to Nikhil Gopalani’s NFT collection. However, RTFKT CTO Samuel Cardillo used Twitter to state that Gopalani may have accidentally provided access codes to a hacker who pretended to be a representative of a big tech firm.

All I can say is: be aware that companies such as Microsoft, Apple, will never ask you for your password, your private key nor any other forms of private information via phone nor emails.

At the time of writing, Nikhil Gopalani hasn't issued any additional comments regarding the matter.
