The buzz surrounding non-fungible tokens (NFTs) may have reduced, but innovative use cases for these digital assets continue to surface.
Blond:ish, a Canadian DJ, music producer, and environmental activist, has introduced an innovative NFT project involving environmentally friendly physical vinyl records.
The project was revealed on April 5th on Twitter. The NFT collection will be dedicated to Blond:ish track "Life Is..." that was used as the intro song of the Bye Bye Plastic & ABRACADABRA album.

According to Blond:ish, the NFT collection will drop on April 11th, with a mint price of 0.04 Ether (ETH) (around $75).
The NFT collection has a "72 hours-long open edition" but doesn't have a "pre-determined total supply." With each purchased NFT, digital collectors will also receive the eco-friendly vinyl record.
In her Twitter thread, Blond:ish described the specifications of the eco-friendly vinyl records as:
Vinyl made using bacteria plastic replication..! Our 14-track vinyl will naturally break down in any environment, including the ocean… and the sound remains CRISP (BEFORE you decompose it in your veg patch obv).
On top of that, Blond:ish has hidden an "Easter Egg" in the collection. The gift set includes 500 Interlude (ISH) and 500 BYEBYE tokens, as well as a free mint pass and "a hand-signed version of the record."
NFTs have been used by artists in various ways, including album releases and even as alternative music streaming methods. This latest vinyl release highlights the expanding physical item trend among NFT collections, where digital assets are tied to physical counterparts.
In August 2022, Muse rolled out an NFT album that was the first new chart-eligible album format introduced in seven years.
On top of that, at the end of February, major audio streaming platform Spotify started testing token-enabled playlists. During the initiative, special playlists are only available to individuals who are holders of particular non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
