Microsoft is set to offer a range of its Office 365 products through Meta’s virtual reality (VR) platform. More specifically, the applications will be available through Meta’s Quest and newly launched Quest Pro VR headsets.
When talking about the partnership during Meta’s Connect conference, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella told the users:
You [will] have a new way to securely stream the entire Windows experience, including all the personalized app content settings to your VR device with the full power [of Windows].
The company highlights that its Mesh for Microsoft Teams will be available on Meta’s Quest Pro and Quest 2 devices. Mesh for Microsoft Teams allows people to gather in virtual working places by working on any digital device, including laptops, smartphones, or mixed-reality headsets. Microsoft team highlights that this integration with Meta’s VR sets will allow users to “connect and collaborate as though they are together in person.”
The company added that users will be able to interact with programs like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint using their Meta “Quest” devices.
On top of that, Microsoft teased that in the future, users will be able to use Windows 365 on all Meta Quest devices, enabling them to stream a Windows Cloud PC, including personalized apps, content, and settings.
Lastly, Microsoft claims that it is working on bringing Xbox Cloud Gaming to Meta Quest Store. According to the company, this integration will let users “stream hundreds of high-quality Xbox games to phones, tablets, PCs, select smart TVs, and the Meta Quest platform.”
