Hermès filed the application on August 26th at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The filing states that the company aims to issue “downloadable computer software for trading, viewing, storing and/or managing virtual goods, digital collectibles, cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).”
Based on the filing, the company aims to launch a platform where customers will be able to buy or sell their non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Moreover, Hermès plans to roll out fashion shows and exhibitions in the metaverse.
The trademark filing notes that the luxury brand aims to provide financial and authentication services. It may suggest that, at some point, Hermès will allow users to pay for their goods using cryptocurrencies.
It is worth noting that, on August 29th, the same USPTO licensed trademark attorney announced Formula One’s filing for two trademarks related to crypto and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
Luxury brands are more and more interested in crypto-related services. At the end of July, Tiffany & Co launched its first NFT collection exclusively to CryptoPunk holders called NFTiff. Earlier this year, Gucci released two NFT collections, “SUPERGUCCI” and “Gucci Grail”.
