In an effort to develop a national strategy for the fast-growing Web3 sector and present an alternative to the dominating global tech companies, the French government is reaching out to the public and asking for its feedback on the creation of a "virtual immersive universe."
On Tuesday, France's Directorate General for Enterprise rolled out a public consultation, requesting input from companies, associations, citizens, and researchers regarding the "virtual spaces." All entities have until May 2nd to share their insights.

The consultation refrains from directly employing the term "Metaverse," stating that its usage is still "subject to discussion in the public debate."

For several months now, the development of virtual immersive universes has become an essential part of the economic debate, with many companies positioning themselves either as solution providers or as users. Beyond fashion effects, it seems today, at least, that an immersive digital transition is looming.
The consultation survey offers custom questionnaires for businesses, citizens, associations, and researchers. Although some questions repeat across the different groups, each category is asked about their specific outlooks on virtual spaces, the level of demand for such environments, and the potential challenges involved.
Citizens are queried about their experience with technologies such as blockchain, mixed reality, and 3D creation software, as well as their concerns and intentions to partake in Metaverse.
Conversely, businesses are questioned about the possible barriers that could obstruct the progress of French companies in building Metaverses, their expectations regarding demand from professionals and the general public, and their thoughts on the foundation of the immersive worlds.
At the end of March, the news broke that French lawmakers are actively working on passing a law banning crypto influencers.
