Federal Judge Orders to Reveal the Names of SBF’s Bond Co-Signees

Sam Bankman-Fried's $250 million bond was signed by his parents, Standford University research scientist and former dean of Standford Law School.

Lewis Kaplan, a United States district judge serving on the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, gave the green light to reveal the names of two FTX co-founder Sam Bankman-Fried’s bond co-signees.

During the hearing on February 15th, Lewis Kaplan ordered Sam Bankman-Fried’s legal team to unveil the names of bond co-signees as the SBF’s lawyers failed to file an appeal.

At the beginning of February, the news broke that SBF’s lawyers filed an appeal. However, during the herding, the federal judge argued that SBF’s legal team filed a notice of appeal but not the actual document itself.

Therefore, crypto exchange FTX co-founders' lawyers had no choice but to reveal the identities of $250 million bond co-signees. It appears that apart from Samuel Bankman-Fried parents, the bond was signed by senior research scientists at Stanford University, Andreas Paepcke, and former dean of Stanford Law School, Larry Kramer.

It is worth noting that before Sam Bankamn-Fried’s arrest, his parents worked as professors at Stanford Law School.

When talking to Business Insider, Larry Kramer claimed that he had known Bankman-Fried’s parents since the 1990s.

Joe Bankman and Barbara Fried have been close friends of my wife and I since the mid-1990s. During the past two years, while my family faced a harrowing battle with cancer, they have been the truest of friends – bringing food, providing moral support and frequently stepping in at a moment's notice to help. In turn, we have sought to support them as they face their own crisis.

At the time of writing, Andreas Paepcke hasn’t commented on the news.

In December, Sam Bankman-Fried was arrested in the Bahamas and transferred to the United States, where he was released on a quarter of a million dollar bond. The former FTX chief executive officer (CEO) is awaiting trial, scheduled to begin in October, in his parents’ house in California.
