Crypto Scam OneCoin Associate Faces Up to 40 Years in Prison

Another OneCoin executive faces a heavy jail sentence of up to 40 years.

Irina Dilkinska, the alleged fraudster, was the head of legal and compliance for the defunct OneCoin, a crypto pyramid scheme that stole over $4 billion dollars from users.

On March 21st, the US Department of Justice charged the former executive of OneCoin with two counts of fraud and money laundering, which could see her spend up to 40 years in prison.

The press release shared by the United States Attorney's Office Southern District of New York reads:

Dilkinksa, 41, of Sofia, Bulgaria, has been charged with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, which carries a maximum potential sentence of 20 years in prison, and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering, which carries a maximum potential sentence of 20 years in prison.

The accused allegedly participated in laundering “approximately $400 million Onecoin proceeds.”

According to US Attorney Damian Williams, Dilkinksa’s actions were ironic to her job function.

Irina Dilkinska, the supposed Head of Legal and Compliance for the OneCoin cryptocurrency pyramid scheme, accomplished the exact opposite of her job title and allegedly enabled OneCoin to launder millions of dollars of illegal proceeds through shell companies.

Dilkinska was extradited from Bulgaria on March 20th and was supposed to appear before US Magistrate Judge Sarah Netburn of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York on March 21st.

OneCoin was founded by Ruja Ignatova (“cryptoqueen”) and Karl Sebastian Greenwood, both of whom were charged with multiple accounts of fraud and money laundering. Greenhood pleaded guilty in December and could face up to 60 years in prison.

Ignatova, however, disappeared in October 2017 after a federal warrant was issued for her arrest. She hasn't appeared in public ever since.

In June 2022, the FBI added Ignatova to its Top Ten Most Wanted List and set a $100,000 reward for information leading to her arrest.
