Damus, a decentralized social media platform known as “Twitter killer,” received a green light from Apple’s App Store.
On January 31st, the social media platform celebrated the news with its 13,400 followers on Twitter.

Damus' road to receiving Apple App Store’s approval was quite bumpy.
The company submitted its first request on January 1st. Two days after submitting its first request, Damus was rejected. On January 26th, it implemented several changes and resubmitted a second request, which was denied on January 29th. However, the company reapplied on January 31st and was approved.
Damus was created on Nostr, an open protocol that, among other things, allows sending encrypted end-to-end private messages.
Based on the blog post shared by Protos on January 27th, the team behind Damus calls the app the “social media network you control.” Damus developers hope to make the platform transparent and allow users to share uncensored content.
Moreover, the app has an integrated payment system, which allows investors to pay using Bitcoin (BTC) layer-2 Lightning Network.
Nostr contributor and Twitter's co-founder shared the news on Twitter, claiming that it is “a milestone for open protocols.”
Damus software has been programmed by 44 developers that were eager to contribute to the development of decentralized social media platforms.
Therefore, it is not surprising that Damus holds some unique development features. It is reported that Damus uses decentralized relays to deliver messages. On top of that, developers equipped Bitcoin and Lightning Network to avoid distributed denial-of-service attacks on the app.
While Damus is celebrating its launch on Apple’s App Store, its rival continues to be the subject of numerous rumors. Most recently, the news broke that Twitter’s Elon Musk wants the platform's payment system to support crypto.
