Uniswap Targeted by Malicious Actors Impersonating Firm's Executives

Malicious actors are taking their attempts to deceive the crypto community to the next level.

Unveiling a sophisticated scam involving a counterfeit Uniswap website, Hayden Adams, the mind behind the Uniswap protocol and current CEO of Uniswap Labs, expressed his disbelief on Twitter.

The scheme involved not only the creation of a fake site but also involved fraudulent individuals taking the role of Uniswap's top executives.

Adams highlighted the audacious and intricate nature of the scheme in his tweet. He pointed out that the fraudsters went above and beyond in their deception, incorporating content catering to the Chinese community.

Strikingly, they also embedded links leading unsuspecting users to the genuine Uniswap app within their counterfeit platform.

To make their ruse appear even more authentic, the swindlers orchestrated an hour-long video meeting on Zoom featuring imposters masquerading as Uniswap's executive team.

This video was designed to trick viewers into believing the scam's legitimacy. Commenting on the video, Adams noted, “Video is nuts. No idea who any of those people are.“

Adams made it a point to set the record straight, asserting that neither Uniswap nor the Uniswap Foundation had any connections or involvements with the deceitful video or its featured participants.

The crypto community on Twitter has theorized that the scam might involve a video promoting the Uniswap (UNI) token in Shenzhen, China. Notably, this footage was reportedly tagged with misleading titles such as “The first Uniswap Asian Summit” and “Guest: CEO of Uniswap.”

Prompt action is being taken by Adams and his crew to combat this scam and lessen its impact. The team's initial efforts are focused on decommissioning the domain associated with the faux Uniswap site.

While scams in the crypto world aren't new, this incident underscores the importance of vigilance and the need to confirm the authenticity of platforms and individuals before any engagement.
