OpenEthereum Terminates Software Support as "The Merge" Approaches

OpenEthereum software's support runs its course.

OpenEthereum, one of the most significant Ethereum (ETH) clients, has announced that it would stop supporting its platform due to the inevitable “Merge” in August.

On May 24, the organization spread the news on its Twitter account:

OpenEthereum produces software that enables its users to build an Ethereum node and mine the crypto while implementing a proof-of-work (PoW) decentralized consensus mechanism. By running a node, users may participate in mining, build services like exchanges, and deliver network improvements.

According to OpenEthereum, the support for the software was terminated due to the fact that it reached a standstill in the community and was not useful anymore. The company added:

“The usefulness has run its course, and we look forward to the next phase of clean, green and massively scalable blockchain infrastructure.”

“Well-documented” clients were needed to manage the upcoming “Merge” and a gradual shift to PoS, offering Nethermind, an Ethereum protocol, or Erigon, an implementation of ETH, as options.

Previously, the infrastructure and innovation-focused organization supporting platforms Parity Technologies held the project. However, in 2019, it was transferred to OpenEtereum.

A week ago, Preston Van Loon, Ethereum core developer, announced that “The Merge” would be finally executed in August. The shift from Proof-of-Work to Proof-of-Stake is anticipated to reduce ETH's daily emissions by around 90%.

In other news, the internet security company Cloudflare stated that in the next few months it will launch ETH validator nodes as "The Merge" approaches.
