North Korean Exploiters Once Again Move Funds Linked to Harmony Bridge Attack

On two separate occasions, North Korean hackers moved over $90 million worth of crypto.

North Koren hackers, known as Lazarus Group, have once again moved funds related to the Harmony bridge attack.

According to the tweet shared by the on-chain detective ZachXBT, on January 29th, hackers laundered approximately 17,278 Ether (ETH) worth around $27,800.

In an extensive Twitter thread, ZachXBT noted that funds were moved from three addresses to six crypto exchanges. ZachXBT did not reveal the crypto exchanges. However, the on-chain detective noted:

S/o to the exchanges who responded quickly on a weekend so funds could be frozen.

On top of that, ZachXBT revealed that 14 addresses were used to withdraw funds from five different crypto exchanges. Hackers allegedly managed to withdraw around 895 Bitcoin (BTC) worth around $21 million.

In its Twitter thread, ZachXBT noted that the method of transferring funds was very similar to the one conducted on January 16th. At that time, malicious actors behind the Harmony bridge attack managed to move over $63 million worth of Ethereum (ETH).

However, at that time, Lazarus Group transferred funds to Binance, OKX, and Huobi and reportedly used 350,000 wallet addresses to move funds in various directions. Nevertheless, Binance CEO Changpeng “CZ'' Zhao revealed that Binance and Houbi managed to freeze accounts and recover funds related to the Harmony One attack.

At the time of writing, no crypto exchange has informed the public about freezing wallets or funds related to the most recent Lazarus Group transfers.

It is worth noting that, on January 23rd, The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) confirmed that Lazarus Group and APT38 were responsible for the exploit of Harmony’s Horizon bridge.

During one of the biggest hacks in 2022, malicious actors stole more than $100 million worth of crypto in the form of Ethereum (ETH), Tether (USDT), Wrapped Bitcoin (wBTC), and Binance Coin (BNB).
