Neo is a well-known, feature-heavy blockchain platform that’s used to create decentralized applications (dApps). The platform has introduced three completely new grant programs to its Eco Support ecosystem. These programs are Core Developer, Research, and General grants. The three new grants push the Neo Foundation over $200 million, Eco Support initiative dedicated fund-wise.
Erik Zhang, Neo founder and core developer, pointed out that the release of Neo N3 was the key move for Neo to become the best blockchain environment for dApp developers:
“We are proud of and grateful for the members of our dedicated and growing community of developers around the globe who made this landmark achievement possible.”
Zhang also emphasized that, through initiatives like these, Neo prioritizes the success of their most important asset - the community behind the ecosystem.
The three new grants will help further-grow and expand the most developer-friendly dApp-oriented ecosystem in the industry. Each of the grants will tackle different important areas of said ecosystem.
Core Developers Grant Program
As the name might suggest, the Core Developers grant aims to encourage developers who have contributed heavily to the Neo ecosystem to become core developers. The chosen devs are able to contribute to Neo’s technical and engineering-related development in their own, respective ways.
The core developers will have a unique opportunity to spread their influence and build a personal brand within the industry. On top of that, there are monthly stipends available - these come with a one-year fellowship. Lastly, there are also quarterly grants that will be issued to those that have continuously contributed to the Neo ecosystem, in their chosen repositories.
General Grants Program
The General grants program will focus on funding the development (and the different tools required) of the Neo N3 blockchain. This program should help experienced development teams start off within the Neo ecosystem.
With typical funding ranging from $5000 up to $50,000, these grants will be available for both new initiatives, as well as existing projects, too. Selected developer teams will be able to receive project funding, guiding and mentoring from core developers, and even special access to various community events (i.e. Neo Community Assembly).
Research Grants Program
Research grants are oriented towards the continuous growth and development of the blockchain industry. The program is designed to invite and motivate researchers from universities, consultancies, laboratories, and so on.
Those who are chosen to receive the grant will be able to demonstrate the ability to bring in real-world benefits to the Neo blockchain - benefits that would be in-line with Neo Foundation’s vision and roadmap. Funding can range from $10,000 up to $100,000.
Topic Prioritization
At this point in time, the Neo Foundation is focused on three specific areas, and will prioritize grant application to those parties that can address them:
Oracle: A built-in oracle system on Neo that will allow users to access off-chain data in a secure manner. The priority here is for projects that can create a decentralized, stable, and reliable price feed for DeFi, games, and NFTs within the Neo ecosystem.
NeoFS: A scalability- and privacy-oriented data distribution solution. Projects that work on the infrastructure boost for NeoFS are prioritized, as well as those that are able to create comprehensive applications based on the concept.
NeoID: An identity preservation-concerned platform that allows users to control and manage their own identity data, as well as integrates with already-existing business models. Grant priority will be given to projects that are built with NeoID (that provide the users with decentralized identity-related services), as well as credential issuers that will provide authentication services to the user.
