The health of Tigran Gambaryan, a Binance executive detained in Nigeria, is reportedly worsening.
According to his wife, Yuki Gambaryan, he urgently needs two surgeries—one to remove his tonsils and another to correct a herniated disc in his back.
Gambaryan has suffered from repeated throat infections, pneumonia, and malaria while in custody, severely affecting his mobility and confining him to a wheelchair and bed. Because of his immobility, prison medical staff have put him on blood thinners to prevent clotting, which complicates the surgery needed for his back condition.

Yuki urged the Nigerian authorities to release her husband or allow him to get the medical treatment he needs. She added:
The herniated disc in his back has worsened to the point where it might leave permanent damage and affect his ability to walk. My once fit and healthy husband, who loves working out, is now wheelchair-bound due to a treatable condition that has not been properly addressed.
In June, Nigerian authorities dropped tax-related charges against Gambaryan and his colleague, Nadeem Anjarwalla, who had fled to Kenya.
Despite this, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of Nigeria continues to pursue money laundering charges against both individuals. Representatives of Gambaryan pointed to the dismissal of tax charges as evidence that the accusations were unfounded, urging for the remaining charges to be dropped.
The Nigerian judiciary is set to deliver the final verdict on October 11.
Gambaryan's health crisis intensifies calls for his release or proper medical treatment, stressing the humanitarian aspect needed in his continued detention.
In July, Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja issued a bench arrest warrant to Dr. Abraham Ehizojie, a medical professional at Kuje Correctional Centre, as he failed to provide a medical report for Gambaryan.
