🔫 When crypto gets dangerous
Reasons why you should always double-check if you locked your front door: today’s story.
Nick Drakon, CEO of the crypto research firm Revelo Intel, announced that he was resigning. What first seemed like a typical “moving to the next chapter” message turned dark real quick.
“I was recently targeted, surveilled, and robbed by a highly sophisticated group. This was an in-person attack where my wife and 8-month-old son were threatened,” he revealed.
The attackers, who apparently already knew the deposit addresses of his businesses, held him at gunpoint and forced him to transfer personal, company, and investor funds from several crypto accounts.
Drakon suspects the thieves may be connected to his company, but he’s staying quiet for now to avoid interfering with the investigation—and to keep his family safe.
In the message, he expressed regret to the people who lost money in the robbery. To help compensate for the damage, he’s given up his ownership stake in Revelo Intel, and 30% of the company’s future profits will go toward repaying those affected.
As such violent crypto-related robberies continue to rise, it’s crucial to remember that threats don’t just come from hackers—whether you’re a CEO or not, always stay cautious.
💿 Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthing ta F’ Wit
…and Martin Shkreli, a.k.a. Pharma Bro, witnessed it first-hand.
If you haven’t heard of this guy—he’s the founder of Turing Pharmaceuticals, who raised the price of a life-saving AIDS drug from $13.50 per pill to $750. A 5000% INCREASE. *cough* jerk *cough*.
Then, good ol’ karma hit back—he was found guilty of fraud, did about 5 years in prison, and got out in 2022.
Two years passed, and bro started acting up again, facing another lawsuit. This time, Shkreli got sued by PleasrDAO after he teased that he’d stream a Wu-Tang Clan album called Once Upon a Time in Shaolin.
Wu-Tang released only one copy of it as a statement against the commercialization of music. Shkreli bought it for $2M in 2015, but he had to give it up after he was convicted. PleasrDAO then got the album in an auction for $4.75M and is now selling partial ownership of it through NFTs.
PleasrDAO found out about Shkreli’s plans to stream the album, put two and two together, and realized he illegally made copies of it. A court later ordered that he turn them all over.
Bro said he had copies of 15 tracks. However, PleasrDAO called BS on that and recently requested that a thorough search be done on storage units linked to Shkreli, just to be sure.
Honestly, I wouldn’t trust the guy either—especially after he allegedly said he “burned the album and sent it to, like, 50 different chicks.” Also, tell me why this man sounds like a middle schooler trying to look cool.
All considered, at least his actions are not making people suffer this time. At the same time, may the 50 chicks wipe his Tearz and remind him never to disrespect the GOATs like that.
