An intriguing snapshot of a modest "utility closet" was recently shared on the r/buttcoin subreddit, purporting to be the official registered address for Binance Ltd in the UK.
However, a spokesperson from the cryptocurrency exchange Binance clarified that this registered firm does not form part of their business entity.
The online post came head over heels after the news broke that Binanace's subsidiary in the UK, Binance Markets Limited (BML), willingly canceled its registration with the local Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
The spotlighted address is located in Mildenhall, Suffolk County, England, a rather unremarkable garage construction perched on the town's outskirts, about a 90-minute drive from London.
According to data from Companies House, the UK government's registrar of companies, this address is shared by 2,403 active companies, including Binance Ltd.
Interestingly, the site happens to be the location of OfficeServ, a provider of virtual registered address services. As detailed on its website, OfficeServ's mission is to offer a "believable business location" to its clients.
In the Companies House records, Binance Ltd is listed under the "other service activities not elsewhere classified" category. The nature and scope of Binance Ltd's operations remain somewhat murky.
The situation brings to mind a warning from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in the UK about the proliferation of "clone" crypto firms. These fraudulent entities mirror legitimate firms' details to trick potential victims into believing they are authentic.
While the details of Binance Ltd's operations are still uncertain, Binance, the cryptocurrency exchange, has been explicit in dissociating itself from this UK-registered entity.
