The crypto market shows cautious optimism, with the Fear and Greed Index at 34. The big coins might need a push to really take off, but Tether's (USDT) swelling market cap hints there's a bunch of cash waiting in the wings, ready to jump in.
The weakening US dollar and Fed's friendly signals could boost crypto, but the market remains uncertain. It's like a rollercoaster that's just started climbing - exciting stuff, but hold onto your hats 🧢
Cryptoland has been struck with quite a few bolts of high-profile legal battles over the past couple of years. If you've been following what went on over there—you're in for a treat today, 'cause two of these cases have some spicy updates.
1/ FTX
Imagine if we got $1 for every time we saw these three letters in the headlines these past few years—by now, we'd be as rich as SBF in his prime.
However, we're not talking about him today. The stars of the show are a former FTX exec, Ryan Salame, and his fiancée, Michelle Bond, who have been up to some Bonnie and Clyde business.
Back in 2022, Bond was running for Congress. Being the supportive boyfriend that he was, Salame showed his love by sending her $400K (and thousands more later) from FTX straight to her bank account, nearly all of which she used to fund her campaign.
The authorities didn't find this stunt to be amusing at all. Last year, Salame got sued over the kind gesture, pleaded guilty, and got handed over a 7.5-year sentence, which he's supposed to start this October.
FYI: she still didn't win, so all this drama was kinda for nothing. Heehee, oopsie.

Anyways, fast-forward to today, after this tea has been sitting untouched for almost a year, the US authorities decided to reheat the kettle.
Bond will also have to deal with what some like to call the consequences, as it was announced yesterday that she's being charged with violating US campaign finance laws.
The more intriguing part is that a day before this announcement was made, Salame's legal team filed a motion to un-guilty his plea.
Why? Well, apparently, the reason why he entered the guilty plea in the first place is because the prosecutors promised him that they wouldn't investigate his pookie.
You know, even if they both end up in prison, I feel like they can get a good book out of it all.
2/ CZ
Crypto Twitter has been buzzing with speculations that Changpeng Zhao, the ex-CEO of Binance who was sentenced to 4 months in prison over weak AML controls at the crypto exchange, has been set free, which wasn't supposed to happen until September 29.
Although that ended up being fake news, there actually were some changes to his location.
Previously being held at the Federal Correctional Institution in California, he was now transferred to a halfway house. That is basically an in-between place for prisoners who haven't yet finished their sentences but are close to being out.
So even if he wasn't released yet, his situation's way better than it was before, since these facilities are less restrictive than prisons.
So, CZ, buckle up; there are still 38 days to go.
